It’s sad because Roddy has all the ability in the world to have followed up PEMFBA with something truly special but we’ve ended up with a track list full of discards from the last project. It feels lazy and lacklustre when you consider it took him over 2 years to release new music. There too many forgettable tracks that are so close to being brilliant but they lack that injection of energy or identity to make them have the playback value. The production is one dimensional in too many of the tracks and it allows Roddy to just blend into the beat and that isn’t necessarily a good thing. Kodak Black and 21 Savage added some spice to ‘hibachi’, Ty Dolla $ign and Alex Isley provide moreish melodies on ‘slow it down’ but the track just stops after 55 seconds, there was potential for Roddy to get into his ‘God’s Eyes’ bag but he clearly didn’t bother. As much as the features save these tracks from being totally mediocre, I feel like there is a dynamism missing from the whole project.įivio Foreign demonstrated why he’s the go-to for a feature on a drill beat, as much as I’d love to hear him flourish on another sonic, he showed Roddy how it is done on ‘murda one’. I enjoy Thailand, Rollercoastin, Hibachi, Moved to Miami and Late at Night but there are far too many tracks that follow the same blueprint. As much as it isn’t bad, there is nothing that shows he has progressed from his debut solo album. To be honest, after listening for a few weeks, it’s a let down for me. Listeners have been waiting for a follow up to Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial and after anticipating a drop for the whole of 2021, LIVE LIFE FAST finally dropped on the 17th December 2021. Roddy Ricch, I didn’t want to have to start off like this but here we are.
